How do I test a floor probe?

Tempo Thermostat

If you believe that the temperature reading on your thermostat is inaccurate or if you have an ER1 error message it is recommended that you test your floor probe. To test the floor probe, you will need a digital multimeter with a 20k setting.

How to Test Your Floor Probe

First, disconnect the sensor wire from ports 1 and 2 on the back of the thermostat unit.

Tip: If you notice that the probe has not been installed in ports 1 and 2 you may have already found your issue.

Next, set your multimeter to 20k and connect either end to each of the ends of the multimeter. The colors do not matter.

A functioning probe will have a resistance reading between 7 and 17 ohms. If you are outside of this range, the sensor has failed.

Tip: A backup floor probe is always recommended during installation. Look for a second probe in the wall. If there is a spare sensor, test it before connecting to your thermostat.
