Heated Walkways

Warmup snow melting products keep walkways snow-free and safe. Snow melting mats or cables are placed under concrete, asphalt or pavers to prevent the accumulation of ice and snow. The system is connected to moisture and temperature sensing control for automated activation.

Heated Sidewalks and Walkways

While a heated sidewalk may seem complicated it truly is much easier than dealing with unforeseen storms. Warmup snow melting mats and cables can be installed under pavers, asphalt, or concrete during any typical sidewalk installation. Once installed and wired to an automated control, your heated walkway system will activate automatically to keep your space clear of snow and ice, saving you time and keeping your space safe and accessible.

How Do Heated Sidewalks Work?

On a cold winter morning a little heat outside goes a long way. A Warmup electric heated walkway system wired to an automated control is designed to be installed and virtually forgotten! At the first sign of moisture below freezing, the control will click the system on to heat the surface just above freezing. A Warmup snow melting system is designed to click on early so that it can ensure a snow and ice-free surface is maintained.

Heated Walkway Mats

For most heated walkways Warmup snow melting mats are installed because they roll out easily at the proper spacing to save time during installation. The mats are available in 2- or 3-foot widths and in varying lengths between 5’ and 60’. Warmup snow melting mats offer a heat output of 50 watts per square foot to accomplish successful snow and ice removal in any climate.

For concrete / asphalt

Warmup snow melting mats and cables can be installed directly on an existing concrete or asphalt surface before an additional 2” pour or can be placed on the earth’s surface before a new pour. For an asphalt installation Warmup does recommend hand rolling the surface. During installation it is important not to use equipment over 1 ton.

For under pavers

Heated walkway pavers offer the best of both worlds: style and function. During a typical paver installation snow melting mats or cables are placed on the earth’s surface followed by a layer of sand or fine gravel. This layer should be at least 1”. Once this is done, the pavers can be laid.

Heated Sidewalk Installation

The best time to install a heated walkway is during construction because the cables must be fully embedded in asphalt, concrete, sand, or fine gravel. A heated walkway can be installed over an existing walkway. It is important to embed the cables fully because our snow melting products reach maximum temperatures of 464°F. The material in which you embed our cable will play an important role as the conductor, distributing heat to ensure that the cable does not burn out.
During planning be sure to consider that the minimum cable coverage is 2” and the maximum coverage is 4”. It is always best to minimize the height on top of the heating cables to decrease ramp up time.

Sidewalks Controllers

Warmup offers a wide range of outdoor controls designed to suit any project size. Whether you are heating a single residential walkway or an entire campus of sidewalks at a school or business we have an automated control set-up for you.
Typically, a DS-Series control is recommended for small or residential projects. This series features outdoor mounted controls with moisture and temperature sensors that work to automatically activate snow melting systems. Similar activation for much larger projects is also possible with a CommBox-600. The CommBox-600 with AirSense features 4x 50-amp contactors in a plug-and-play format, ideal for commercial installations.

Cost

Warmup snow melting mats range from $215.50-$1,127. Depending on the size of your project you may require one or more snow melting mats. Snow melting cables do come in at a slightly lower price with a maximum price per unit of $888. Normally, because of the extra installation time required for the loose cable, the mat is decided upon for regularly shaped spaces.

Outdoor controls start at $899. All Warmup materials are approved for use in the US and Canada and should be installed by a qualified installer. While Warmup does not offer installation, we do offer sales and technical support by phone and online 24/7.

Inclement weather can complicate your day. From schedule changes to safety concerns and the cost of removal, snow and ice can really change your plans. The priceless benefits of a Warmup snow melting system are waking up without the worry of what awaits you outdoors. Think about enjoying the extra time with your children that you would normally have to spend clearing snow during a school delay or how safe your business will be and the choice will be clear: a heated walkway installation.
