Bathroom Remodel – Creating the Perfect Bathroom
Have you been dreaming of a bathroom remodel but do not know where to begin? This guide will point you in the right direction and provide you with an example of what it is like to design and install the perfect elements to transform your bathroom into an oasis.
Plan your bathroom remodel
The first step in transforming your bathroom into a spa is to take measurements of the existing area, and create a rough sketch unless you have a floor plan. This sketch will be useful in so many ways, so be sure to be exact and even mark for electrical and plumbing locations. For maximum use of the space we’d recommend including:
- Freestanding soaking tub
- Steam shower
- Large double vanity sink
- Enclosed toilet area
- Linen closet
- Electric Heated Floors
Bathroom design plans will act as a guide in determining where the major pieces will go. This is similar to putting together a jigsaw puzzle, in that all the pieces need to fit together in a certain way. Scale, balance and negative space all play an important role in how space will look and feel when it’s complete, so it’s important that we pay attention to the details especially with contemporary designs.
The overall goal is to end up with a functional design that is visually pleasing from multiple angles. Key features like the point of entry in the room and focal points will guide the eye across a space to create an environment that matches your own personal style.
Design
Now that we have the major components of our personal retreat laid out, we can turn our attention to the exciting part, the finishes! Here’s what we recommend:
- Vanities/accessories
- Countertops (granite/quartz)
- Plumbing fixtures & fittings
- Decorative lighting fixtures
- Wall coverings (tile/marble)
- Floor coverings (tile/marble)
- Mirrors/medicine cabinets
- Frameless shower enclosure
- Electric Towel warmers
- Mirror defoggers
When considering what direction to take in terms of style during your bathroom renovation, it’s very useful to draw inspiration from a close memory, perhaps a favorite dinner spot or a past vacation. On the other hand, you could be inspired by simply looking at materials in stores, or online, and building from the materials or components you see and cannot live without. Such as the Liberty Single Bar towel warmers from Warmup® or an unforgettable decorative light fixture.
Color & Textures
If you only remember one thing from reading this article, please let it be that color and texture elements are crucial to a successful design. Having a good balance of highs and lows in terms of the sheen on the various finishes will allow for positive contrast that is sure to transform your space.
The opposite is true for the color, meaning we want the “color temperature” to be relative to one another. It is possible to add pops of color to your space but this should be done so carefully after determining the full-color pallet.
Amenities
The best thing you can do for a bathroom remodel is to add features that will improve your everyday life. You may or may not have considered bringing technology into your bathroom in past remodels, but if you are starting a new project in 2018, chances are you will be choosing to add tech features. They will elevate the level of enjoyment and function that homeowners get out of their space.
For bathroom technology, we recommend the Warmup 4iE® Smart WiFi thermostat. This smart thermostat, manufactured by Warmup®, connects to the My Warmup interface and offers consumers the opportunity to control their electric heated floors and towel warmers, with just a few clicks on a computer or smart device. The best part? The thermostat does not require programming when it is connected to your mobile app. By using your location, your electric heated floors can be ready for you even before you return home.
Adding key amenities during a bathroom renovation will transform your space into a spa. It is possible to escape in your own home to a space that makes you feel renewed and relaxed, so why not create that space under your own roof, instead of searching for it elsewhere?
