Pickering House Inn is an incredibly renovated historic Inn. Drawing from traveling experiences of their own, owners Peter and Patty have transformed the 1813 building into a spacious 10-guest room, luxury Inn, where guests can enjoy beautiful common areas, outdoor patios and porches. In addition to the beautiful interior and ambiance that the Inn has to offer, the Inn also boasts the benefits of being located in downtown Wolfeboro, NH – a charming lakeside town – and is within walking distance to the town docks, restaurants and shops, walking trails and cross country skiing.

The Challenge
Located in New Hampshire, the Pickering House Inn serves a high-end looking to enjoy a leisurely stay in comfort. While the weather is warm and temperate in the spring and summer, the colder months can pose a challenge to keeping guests warm and happy. Peter and Patty, the owners of the inn, wanted to equip their property so that they could provide the most comfortable lodging possible for their guests while maintaining energy-efficiency throughout the building. In addition to this, they also wanted to better protect guests and staff around the perimeter of the inn during inclement weather. Ultimately, they were looking for an interior and exterior heating solution that would help maintain the operating needs of the inn, improve customer satisfaction, and ensure everyone's protection from weather-related risks.
The Solution
Peter and Patty did an online search to see if they could find heating solutions for both their indoor heating needs as well as their outdoor snow melting needs. They landed on the Warmup website and realized that there was a company that could provide solutions for both. After consulting a specialist on our Customer Experience Team, Peter and Patty were felt confident enough to move forward with underfloor heating for ten guest bathrooms and an outdoor driveway and walkway automated snow melting system.
The StickyMat System was a great choice to use in the bathrooms, as it is specially designed for regularly shaped spaces and can be easily installed by being rolled out in parallel runs. It can be used under all flooring types that are approved for use with radiant heating, making it a great option to use under tiles in the bathrooms. Plus, its thin dual fluoropolymer coated heating wire is less than 1/8″, meaning that it causes a minimal raise to the floor. The pre-spaced and pre-set cable within the mesh allows for consistent heat distribution, which is particularly helpful in a bathroom. An evenly heated floor increases moisture evaporation, which can help prevent location-specific issues down the line, such as mold. In addition, the evenly-spaced heating optimized comfort and energy use, as the bathroom will remain a cozy space for guests while reducing cold spots and heat loss for the inn.
Additionally, they installed a Snow Melting System around the perimeter of the inn. The Snow Melting System automatically activates when it detects a specific temperature drop and moisture, allowing it to only turn on when necessary. The heating cables beneath the driveways and walkways prevent snow and ice from accumulating, thus preventing the risk of slips and falls. This helped protect employees and guests alike, as employees could work without concern during the winter time and guests could safely enter and exit the inn. Adding heat to these areas ensured that everyone would be safe and comfortable coming and going on their property.
The Result
No matter the time or what staff is on duty, the Pickering House Inn remains accessible and comfortable without major maintenance. 4iE energy monitoring thermostat controls in each bathroom allow guests to set the bathroom heat to their desired comfort without the high cost. High-end touches surround the inn, making it an incredible location to safely and comfortably escape to for a relaxing retreat year-round.
