The Principles of Electric Radiant In Floor Heating

  • In most cases electric in floor heating systems are installed on a sub-floor and underneath a surface material allowing it to emit an even heat through the surface material which then radiates upward. They can be installed directly into the sub-floor for in-slab heating as well. For outdoor heating solutions, the same invisible installation methods apply but for roof and gutter systems, the heating cable is installed onto the surface instead of under it.

Electric Heated Floors - The Perfect Heat signature
The very nature of in floor heating creates the perfect heat signature for a comfortable and healthy heated home. Whereas a typical forced air system will overheat the top of the room first so that the heat then forces its way downwards, in floor heating creates an even heat distribution from the whole floor which then radiates upward, slowly heating extremities first and keeping the whole room temperature at a comfortable level. This is a very efficient way to heat a room as it doesn't require any overheating leading to energy savings.
Thermal Stratification Image For Radiant In Floor Heating
The image below has been created from tests on actual Warmup electric radiant heating systems. These tests were conducted from our state of the art test facility in Germany. You can see the heat signature created from a Warmup radiant floor heating system clearly with its even heat distribution. It also shows how the room is quickly brought up to a moderate temperature.
